Fish Market
A Brief History of the Fish Market
The history of the Fish Market goes back to the 1960s. The area where it is now was used as a commercial center of Fethiye in those years. Producers from the surrounding provinces and districts were selling their products in this bazaar area.
In the 1980s, because mostly butcher shops were operating in the bazaar, this czar was called Butchers’ Bazaar for a while. There was a stone called Fish Stone in the bazaar and fishermen in this area offer their own fish for sale.
After the 1999 mayor elections, the bazaar changed its face as the Fishermen’s Bazaar in the 2000s, and the butcher shops were now replaced by fish restaurants.
Today, you can buy the fish and seafood you want from the fishermen located in the center of the bazaar and have it cooked in one of the restaurants that surround the fishermen.
What Kind of Environment Awaits You?
To summarize the atmosphere of the fish market, we can say that it is warm, sincere and fun, but to put it literally, it is a complete revel thanks to the musicians accompanying your fish and appetizers!
