Göbün is undoubtedly the most sheltered bay among Göcek bays. It is open only to the North direction, and the approach to the bay is made through this opening. Due to this feature, it only gets air from the North. Even if the wind blows from the North, the chance of the seas reaching the pier is very low depending on its intensity and how long it blows. For this reason, and also because of its proximity to Sarsala Bay, which is close to Dalaman Airport as a highway, Göbün bay is one of the favorite haunts of many yachtsmen.
Getting to Göbün by Boat
Although the entrance to the bay is not very clear from afar, you can get a bearing from the Turkish Flag on the hill on the west side of the entrance. The entrance is between two hills, first narrowing and forming a small strait, and then relatively widening towards the South of the bay. You can do your docking maneuver in this width. From the entrance, the depth drops to 10 meters and is around 5 – 7 meters in average in the middle of the bay.
There are actually 3 different alternatives for wharfing. Before entering the bay, it is possible to anchor and land on the East or West side from the stern, by connecting to the vaults from the stern on the West side inside the bay of the East side , or by connecting to the L-shaped pier extending on the East and South sides in the interior of the bay. Of course, in harsh weather, it is not safe to be tied to the vaults at the edge of the bay or to anchor in the same area and land from the stern. The pier of the restaurant can accommodate 40-50 boats. Only the parts of the piers in the East and South close to the restaurant are quite shallow. That’s why motor yacht waves that may come from the open can cause your sailing boat to hit the blade. If your boat is over 50 feet, it is useful to use a long gangway and open the stern of the boat, even if it is landed from head to land or from the stern when approaching here. In the interior of the pier in the south, there are semi-submerged ancient ruins.
Gobun Restaurant
The restaurant is the first restaurant of Göcek Bays. A diver from Kayaköy and his wife have run the restaurant for years, and his family is operating by expanding their opportunities. In the bay where there is no electricity connection, the restaurant’s electricity needs are solved with solar energy panels and the battery groups-inverter they are connected to. Generator sound is not heard in the bay. There is also a men’s barbershop by the sea. Water sports service is also provided in the bay.
Walking in Göbün
You can reach Martı Bay with a pleasant half-hour walk by following the pathway from the back of the restaurant.
